Texas has been recognized as the fourth best state for business in CNBC's latest study, which evaluates America's Top States for Business and was released on July 9. This marks a decline from its previous second-place position.

Ohio has achieved the top ranking for the first time, followed by North Carolina in second place, Virginia in third, and Minnesota rounding out the top five. Texas continues to excel in several key areas, being rated first in Workforce and second in both Economy and Access to Capital. The state's extensive logistics infrastructure, including major ports and international airports, supports its status as a leading trade hub. A favorable tax environment and consistent corporate investment contribute to Texas's high ranking.

However, the state's performance in livability is a concern, with CNBC ranking it 49th out of 50 for Quality of Life due to high crime rates, inadequate healthcare, and issues of inclusivity. This aspect negatively impacts Texas's overall score in the study, which assesses all 50 states across ten competitive categories.

Despite the drop from second to fourth, Texas has shown resilience in its rankings, having previously ranked sixth in 2023 and second in 2025. The Dallas Regional Chamber reported 119 corporate relocations or expansions in North Texas in 2025, highlighting the ongoing economic growth in the region, which includes Denison.

The ranking's strengths, a top-rated workforce and business investment, play out across North Texas communities including Denison.
