As the Houston Texans prepare for the upcoming season, their opportunities to strengthen the wide receiver position are becoming increasingly limited. The team has made significant roster moves, including the addition of Jadeveon Clowney and Mario Edwards to bolster the defensive line, but has not focused on upgrading its wide receiver group, opting to rely on younger talent already in place.
With the regular season on the horizon, the Texans' chances of acquiring a notable wide receiver have diminished. Top free agents like Deebo Samuel, Stefon Diggs, and Keenan Allen have signed with other teams, leaving Houston with fewer viable options. Although Tyreek Hill is still available, concerns about his recovery from a torn ACL injury make his signing unlikely.
Other potential targets, such as Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins, may not significantly enhance the team's depth chart.
Currently, the Texans are likely to stick with their existing wide receivers, including Nico Collins, who is expected to take on a primary role, and Jayden Higgins as a potential second option. Players like Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson are also anticipated to contribute, along with a healthy Tank Dell.
Despite the lack of major signings, the Texans' front office remains confident in their current group, holding over $20 million in cap space for any future moves, though the prospect of adding another impactful wide receiver appears slim as the season approaches.
