Klassen Sets the Tone
George Klassen established the early rhythm of the contest at Daikin Park, pitching seven scoreless innings for the Los Angeles Angels. The rookie starter limited the Houston Astros to just one hit while walking three batters. He struck out seven hitters and allowed no earned runs, securing the win to improve his record to 2-1.
Klassen’s dominance was the defining feature of the first two-thirds of the game, keeping the home team’s offense quiet for a significant stretch.
Early Offense Builds Lead
The Angels took the initial lead in the third inning when Schanuel singled to center field, allowing Meckler to score and Trout to advance to third. The away team extended their advantage in the fourth when Lowe launched a home run to left field, carrying the distance of 345 feet.
In the fifth inning, the Angels added a third run as Neto doubled to shortstop, enabling Schanuel to cross the plate. This sequence of scoring plays gave the visitors a comfortable 3-0 lead entering the final three frames.
Astros Strike Back Late
Houston found its only run of the game in the eighth inning. Smith connected with a powerful home run to left field that traveled 415 feet, reducing the Angels’ lead to one run. Despite this late surge, the Astros were unable to mount a further comeback.
