Quantrill Anchors the Attack
The Texas Rangers secured a 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, August 19, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. The decisive factor was the performance of starter Cal Quantrill, who dominated the National lineup for seven innings. Quantrill allowed just four hits and struck out five batters while walking none.
His outing was completely scoreless, as he surrendered zero earned runs. The Rangers took the win to improve their record to 62-64, while the Nationals dropped to 60-67.
Offense Builds Early Lead
The Rangers capitalized on Washington's pitching struggles early in the game. In the first inning, a groundout by Burger resulted in a double play that allowed Langford to score, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. The margin expanded in the second inning when Austin Foscue hit a solo home run to left field.
The ball traveled 400 feet, pushing the score to 2-0. The Rangers added three more runs in the third inning to close out the scoring. A fielder's choice by Nimmo brought in Langford, followed by a walk to Foscue that scored Seager.
Freeman then singled to third base, driving in Nimmo to make it 5-0. The Nationals challenged a call in the third inning, but the original decision was upheld.
