Kevin Jennings, the quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is reportedly set to play in the season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This development comes after Jennings sustained a finger injury earlier this month when he jammed it in a locker room door during fall camp.
Head coach Rhett Lashlee expressed optimism regarding Jennings' recovery, noting that the redshirt senior has resumed throwing and is not experiencing any pain. Lashlee mentioned that Jennings will have a full two weeks to prepare for the game, with the aim of him being at 100% by kickoff.
Lashlee stated, "Going well. No pain, and we are working him back in this week and expect him to have a full two weeks to get ready for game one and be 100%." Reports from ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed that Jennings has begun throwing again as he moves closer to a return.
The injury was not deemed serious, and Jennings' comeback is crucial for SMU's prospects this season. Last year, he recorded career highs with 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a 66.1% completion rate, although he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for improvement as the new season approaches.
