Jaishawn Barham will take over the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive communication duties when they meet the Washington Commanders in Week 2. Coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed the rookie linebacker will handle the role Sunday, with defensive coordinator Christian Parker making the change before the NFC East matchup.

The assignment follows Dallas’ 28-point loss to the New York Giants in Week 1, a game in which the Cowboys had difficulty slowing the Giants’ offense. Barham was selected in the third round out of Michigan.

His responsibilities will include communicating the defense as Dallas prepares for Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels. The Commanders also lost to a division opponent in Week 1. The Cowboys’ offense facing Washington’s defense, along with Barham’s performance in his new role, are key developments before the game, according to sportingnews.com.
