Fourth-Inning Surge Decides Game

The Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Thursday, August 20, at Daikin Park. The decisive moment arrived in the bottom of the fourth inning when the home team scored three runs to take the lead for good. That offensive burst proved sufficient to overcome an early deficit and secure the victory.

Scoring Sequence

The Angels took the initial lead in the top of the third inning. Yennier Cano homered to left field, a shot that carried 383 feet, putting Los Angeles ahead 1-0. The Astros responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth.

Luis Garcia doubled, allowing Kyle Tucker and Jose Altuve to score, giving Houston a 2-1 lead. The game was tied at 2-2 after Carlos Correa doubled to left, scoring Yordan Alvarez and moving Jose Altuve to third.

The final run of the game came when Alex Bregman hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Jose Altuve to score and giving the Astros the 3-2 lead they would hold.

Pitching Performance

Ethan Pecko started for Houston, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing three hits and two earned runs. He also issued three walks and struck out four batters. The win was recorded by Bennett Sousa, who pitched 1.1 innings with one hit, no earned runs, no walks, and one strikeout.

Josh Hader recorded the save, pitching one inning with no hits, no earned runs, one walk, and no strikeouts. For the Angels, Walbert Urena took the loss after pitching five innings, allowing three hits and three earned runs. He also issued two walks and struck out seven batters.

Michael Fulmer followed with one inning of two hits, no earned runs, no walks, and three strikeouts. Tayler Saucedo pitched 1.1 hitless, scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Luke Murphy pitched the final two-thirds of an inning with no hits, no earned runs, and no strikeouts.

Team Records

The Astros improved their record to 64-63 with the win. The Angels fell to 50-77. Attendance at the game was 21,162.
