Denison's Solid Waste Division plans to start renting out smaller containers as a lower-cost collection choice, and it wants a new truck sized to carry them.
The City Council will consider buying that truck from Huffines CDJR for $73,350 at its regular meeting Monday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 300 W. Main St. The purchase sits on the consent agenda, where routine items pass together in one vote unless someone asks for a separate discussion.
According to the staff report from Assistant Public Works Director John Phillips, the smaller containers need a smaller vehicle that can drop them off and pick them up efficiently, and the new truck would let the division keep service reliable as the program grows. The report says the truck is ready for immediate delivery if approved.
The money was set aside in the 2027 budget as a capital purchase and will be financed.
The packet does not list rental prices for the new containers, their sizes or a start date for the service.
