Nico Collins was not visible during the portion of Houston’s Wednesday practice open to reporters, extending his absence to three straight sessions. The Texans wide receiver suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain before the team’s Week 2 game against Cincinnati and did not play in that matchup.
Tight end Dalton Schultz also was not seen, along with offensive linemen Trent Brown and Ed Ingram and edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney. No additional status information was provided for those players. Houston is 0-2 entering Week 3, when it is scheduled to face the Indianapolis Colts.
Collins’ absence against Cincinnati reduced the production from Houston’s wide receivers. None had more than three catches or 40 yards. Schultz had 12 catches totaling 140 yards, while Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte and Jaylin Noel combined for seven receptions.
If Collins is unavailable again, those three receivers would be expected to take on more work, and offensive coordinator Nick Caley would prepare for another game without the team’s top wideout. SI.com reported that Collins could instead return in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
