The Atlantic Coast Conference selected SMU senior Enzo Panozzo as its co-defensive player of the week following the Mustangs’ 1-0 victory over NC State. The conference announced the award Tuesday, and Panozzo shares it with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly.
Panozzo, a Sarasota, Florida, native, wore the captain’s armband and scored the only goal in SMU’s ACC home opener. The Mustangs limited NC State to eight shots, with two reaching the target, while earning their fifth shutout of the season. SMU Athletics reported the honor.
It is Panozzo’s first ACC weekly award and the second conference weekly honor for SMU this season. The win moved the Mustangs to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. SMU has a 7-0-1 record and is 2-0-0 in ACC competition. The team is scheduled to return to conference play Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
