Nate Bennett is expected to remain Baylor’s starting quarterback if junior DJ Lagway is unavailable for the Bears’ Week 3 game against Louisiana Tech. Bennett made his first start in Baylor’s win over Prairie View A&M, completing 26 of 34 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 13 yards and a touchdown, but threw two interceptions.
Lagway is listed as doubtful after an ankle sprain sidelined him against Prairie View A&M. He suffered the injury in Baylor’s season-opening loss to Auburn, after transferring from Florida and playing in that game. Baylor coach Dave Aranda said Lagway took part in a Monday walkthrough and would be evaluated through his practice work.
The report said the injury is not expected to keep Lagway out for a month or longer. It remains unclear whether he could play in an emergency against Louisiana Tech. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Baylor hopes Lagway will return for its Big 12 opener against Colorado next Saturday. Edward Griffin is listed as QB2 on the depth chart, followed by Quinn Murphy as QB3.
