The second phase of the Designing Downtown Denison initiative is approaching its conclusion, with municipal leaders organizing a ribbon-cutting ceremony for October 15. The event will formally recognize the completion of improvements across the downtown area.
City administrators initially broke ground on the first phase of the D3 Main Street project in 2021. Five years later, the current phase is wrapping up, with final work on Fannin Street expected to finish in the coming days. Once that segment is done, motorists will no longer need to navigate through active construction zones or avoid potholes in the vicinity.
The Phase 2 scope encompassed upgrades to Heritage Park and enhancements along the 300 and 400 blocks of Main Street. These changes aim to modernize infrastructure while maintaining the historic character of the district.
Donna Dow, who serves as the Main Street director, noted that the renovations have altered the atmosphere of the area. She stated that while the buildings remain largely the same, the overall appearance has shifted. According to Dow, this new aesthetic has sparked greater interest among the public.
