The Denison City Council has selected Renee Waggoner to serve as the city's new manager. The appointment was made following the retirement of former city manager Bobby Atteberry. Council members revealed the decision to the public during a meeting on Monday night.
Waggoner is a long-time employee of the city, having worked in various departments for 24 years. She was initially appointed as the interim city manager in May. According to Mayor Robert Crawley, the selection process involved a third-party firm that reviewed more than 50 applicants. The council made its final choice during an executive session.
In a statement to KTEN, Waggoner expressed appreciation for the support she has received. "I mean, it’s a little overwhelming to know that people really support you that way; it’s a good feeling. Been with the city 24 years and worked in various departments. I just want us all to be rowing in the same direction," she said.
Mayor Crawley noted that the city's familiarity with its staff is a significant advantage. "To already know our people, we are very proud of that, and that's a real advantage. We are looking forward to her leadership," Crawley added.
