The piece was created by artist Jake Dobscha, who stated that the work draws inspiration from the floods that affected Kerr County last year. Dobscha noted that the art reflects the shared bond formed in the aftermath of the storm.
In describing the symbolism of the figures, Dobscha explained that the little girl represents the community. He said the dogs look at the people with adoration but are thinking that they smell like hot dogs, adding that the animals saved each other.
