A severe weather system passed through Denison on Sunday night, dropping more than three inches of rain in a short period. The intense downpour rapidly overwhelmed local drainage, causing roads to flood and water to enter residential areas.
High winds accompanied the rainfall, snapping tree limbs and damaging power lines across the community. Homeowners faced immediate challenges as floodwaters rose quickly inside their properties.
Antoinette Gordan, a Denison resident, described how water entered her home, covering floors and filling multiple rooms. She noted that the water receded within approximately 25 minutes, allowing her to assess the extent of the interior damage. Cleanup efforts continued for hours afterward, with Gordan receiving assistance from friends to remove remaining moisture.
Denison Emergency Management Coordinator Hunter Harris stated that city crews began responding as soon as the storm hit. Two teams operating grapple trucks worked through the night and into the morning to clear fallen trees and other debris from streets.
