Ruiz Foods has announced a plan to expand its manufacturing operations in Florence County, South Carolina. The California-headquartered company intends to invest $40 million in the facility to boost production capacity. This move is designed to address growing customer demand for its products.
The company established its presence in the region in 2014. It operates from a site at 2557 Florence Harllee Blvd. within the Pee Dee Electric Commerce Park. Ruiz Foods produces El Monterey and Tornado brand frozen Mexican food items that are distributed across the United States. The El Monterey line is identified as the leading brand in its category nationwide.
Peter Mayadag, the director of operations for the Florence location, stated that the company is part of the local business community and is focused on continued growth. He noted that a previous expansion in 2017 nearly doubled the facility's size. The current investment focuses on equipment upgrades to handle increased consumer demand.
Local officials expressed support for the development. Senator Hugh K. Leatherman described the company as a positive force for the state. Florence County Council Chairman Willard Dorriety, Jr. highlighted the employer's contributions to the local economy and education, specifically mentioning the Ruiz 4 Kids program which offers scholarships and teacher grants.
Joe W. “Rocky” Pearce, chairman of the Florence County Economic Development Partnership, noted the company's strategy for a coast-to-coast footprint and its significant growth since arriving in 2014.
