A long-running Denison manufacturer has started foundation work on a 50,000-square-foot addition to its plant, a project its owner said could cost as much as $10 million.

Lowry Construction builds steel frames to customers' blueprints, along with cooling towers and skid-mounted equipment used on job sites elsewhere, owner David Lowry told KTEN in a report published Monday. The station described the company as a 140-year-old business handed down through generations of the family.

The new building is going up steps from the company's headquarters and primary factory on Juanita Drive, at 3021, according to the report. The money covers both construction and the equipment that will go inside.

Jobs and timeline

The expansion is expected to create at least eight positions, KTEN reported. Lowry said the space would let the company take on more work and add "quality jobs."

He told the station the building itself should start rising sometime around Thanksgiving, with the company moving in by the end of January.

Public incentive

The Denison Development Alliance, the city's economic development arm, is putting about $200,000 toward the project through its business incentive program, according to KTEN.

Charlie Pool, chairman of the alliance's board, told KTEN that part of the group's job is to keep investing in companies that are already based in Denison. "They continue to add great jobs for our community," he said.

The alliance has not posted details of the agreement, such as job or investment targets the company must meet to receive the money, on its news page.
