Caterpillar Inc. has officially launched its latest workforce commitment in Illinois, allocating up to $10 million toward preparing workers for modern manufacturing and industry technician roles. This funding represents the most recent phase of the company’s five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce Initiative.
The announcement was made at Caterpillar’s Edwards Demonstration & Learning Center. The effort will extend across multiple Illinois communities where the company maintains a manufacturing presence, including East Peoria, Mapleton, Morton, Pontiac, and Decatur. Illinois provides an environment for these initiatives due to its strong manufacturing base and the company’s extensive footprint within the state.
Christy Pambianchi, Caterpillar’s Chief Human Resources Officer, emphasized the company’s long-standing connection to the region. "Caterpillar's roots run deep in Illinois, and so does our commitment to building a strong and skilled workforce," Pambianchi said. She noted that the investment aims to provide clear paths to manufacturing careers while equipping future generations with necessary skills.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker supported the initiative, stating it would help more residents gain skills for the workforce and ensure manufacturers have the talent needed to compete. "I’m proud to work alongside their team as we create more pathways to good-paying careers and solidify Illinois’ global manufacturing leadership," Pritzker said.
Caterpillar employs more than 17,000 people across Illinois, including staff at its downtown Peoria offices and various major manufacturing sites. The company plans to strengthen collaboration between training institutions and employers to provide accessible, affordable, and relevant training. Additional goals include outreach programs for students and educators, exploring innovative financing models, and sharing best practices with the wider industry.
