The Cigna Group announced Tuesday that current President and Chief Operating Officer Brian Evanko will become chief executive officer on July 1, 2026. He succeeds David M. Cordani, who is retiring from the role effective that same date.

Evanko currently manages the company’s business portfolio across its Cigna Healthcare and Evernorth Health Services divisions. The leadership transition was confirmed by the insurer earlier in the day.

Financial analysts on Wall Street responded to the news with continued optimism regarding the company's direction. Barclays described Evanko as the expected successor, noting his combination of youth and tenure makes him a strong candidate for leading healthcare services firms. The firm maintained an Overweight rating on Cigna shares, though it acknowledged the timing of the announcement might catch some investors off guard.

JPMorgan also kept its Overweight rating on the stock. The bank stated that while Cordani’s departure was not viewed as immediate, the company remains in capable hands under Evanko’s leadership.

Alongside the executive change, Cigna reaffirmed its financial projections for 2026. The company expects consolidated adjusted income from operations of at least $30.25 per share for the full year. It also projected Evernorth pre-tax adjusted income from operations of no less than $6.9 billion and Cigna Healthcare pre-tax adjusted income from operations of at least $4.5 billion.

Market data shows mixed sentiment among retail investors. On Stocktwits, discussion volume regarding Cigna stock remained at normal levels over the past 24 hours, with sentiment staying within bearish territory. The CI stock has declined by 9% over the last twelve months.

CIGNA employs about 800 people in Denison, according to local government records.
