Cigna Healthcare has introduced a new connected benefits experience designed to link medical and supplemental health coverage. The initiative aims to help individuals manage unexpected or high-cost health events by simplifying how these benefits are accessed.

The core component of this offering is Medical with Smart Coverage, which employers can add to existing high-deductible health plans. Eligible participants may receive up to $7,000 in supplemental cash benefits tied to specific covered events, including injury, illness, or hospitalization. These funds can be used for medical expenses or everyday costs such as transportation and child care.

To facilitate this process, Cigna utilizes a system called Simple File Sync Plus. This tool automatically matches qualifying medical claims to eligible supplemental benefits, reducing administrative steps for both employees and employers. The system is already available to eligible clients.

Bryan Holgerson, President of Cigna Healthcare U.S., stated that the company is bringing these benefit types closer together to provide peace of mind during financially stressful times. He noted that rising hospital and prescription drug costs, along with inflation, continue to strain household budgets.

Medical with Smart Coverage will launch on January 1, 2027, for U.S. clients with 500 to 2,999 employees who offer qualifying high-deductible plans. A broader rollout is planned for 2028. The initial availability is limited to mid-sized employers; details regarding other company sizes or international availability were not provided.

CIGNA employs about 800 people in Denison, according to local government records.
