Caterpillar Inc. has launched a new workforce commitment in Arkansas, joining its broader five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce Initiative. The company announced the move alongside Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday.
The Arkansas allocation provides up to $3 million to prepare local workers for roles in modern manufacturing and industry technician positions. This funding represents the fifth distribution under the initiative, which has previously supported programs in Indiana, Texas, and Illinois, as well as an innovation challenge.
Christy Pambianchi, Caterpillar’s chief human resources officer, stated that every community possesses the talent necessary to build a strong manufacturing workforce. She noted that Arkansas is experiencing significant momentum within the industry and emphasized that the commitment aims to establish training pathways for future careers.
Governor Sanders highlighted the connection between workforce development and industrial growth. She said that building the industries of tomorrow requires investing in people just as much as technology. By linking training directly to employer needs, she added, the initiative will provide Arkansans with skills for well-paying jobs and encourage further business investment in the state.
Caterpillar currently employs more than 530 individuals in Arkansas and collaborates with 60 suppliers across the state. The company’s North Little Rock facility, which opened in 2010 as a motor grader plant, has since expanded to include medium wheel loader and paving products. The site is noted for adopting modern technologies to enhance efficiency and safety.
The initiative seeks to strengthen collaboration among Arkansas training institutions, students, employers, and community organizations. Partners include the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College, the Little Rock Regional Chamber, and Academies of Central Arkansas. The goal is to expand hands-on manufacturing pathways for students and increase technical training capacity throughout the region.
