Texoma Medical Center in Denison is marking 50 years of providing medical care to the region. The facility is currently celebrating five decades of growth and the introduction of new services to the local community.
The hospital’s origins trace back to 1976, when Memorial Hospital adopted the name TMC. According to internal medicine physician Dr. Robert Sanders, the name change was part of a broader strategy to establish the facility as a regional hub. Sanders noted that the leadership intended to serve patients from North Texas and southern Oklahoma by offering necessary medical services.
Sanders, who has worked at the hospital for 48 years, described the institution’s long-term focus on continuous improvement. He stated that the staff has consistently asked how they can provide better services and what steps are needed to advance their care. This forward-looking attitude, he said, has been central to the hospital’s development over the past half-century.
Reflecting on his tenure, Sanders expressed pride in the changes he has witnessed. He described his work as rewarding and cited this satisfaction as the reason he continues in his role. The hospital’s leadership followed through on its initial vision, expanding its capabilities to meet the needs of a wider geographic area.
