City Council to Review Hazardous Waste Transport Ordinance

Ordinance Overview

The city council will receive a report, hold a discussion, and take action on an ordinance amending Chapter 26, Utilities, Article IX, Liquid Waste, Division 1, Generally, Section 26-824, Definitions.

The proposed changes add the definition of Special Waste, amend other waste type definitions, and retitle Division 3 from Liquid Waste Transporters to Hazardous Waste Transporters.

Permit Requirements

The measure converts the current liquid waste transport permit into a hazardous waste transport permit.

Transporters of dangerous materials, including untreated medical waste, pesticides, asbestos, and other hazardous types, must obtain the annual permit.

Public Safety and Enforcement

Permit holders will be required to disclose the receiving location of their waste to help curb illegal dumping.

Denison Fire Rescue will use permit records to ensure safe and efficient responses when incidents involve permitted hazardous waste transporters.
