Early voting for the Nov. 3 general election opened Monday, and Denison residents have two places in town to cast a ballot before Election Day.

Grayson County lists eight early voting sites across the county. The two in Denison are:

  • Grayson County Sub-Courthouse, in the justice of the peace courtroom at 101 W. Woodard St.
  • Grayson College main campus, in the SAB training room at 6101 Grayson Drive.

The county lists its Election Administration office, 115 W. Houston St. in Sherman, as the main voting location. The other early sites are in Bells, Pottsboro, Howe, Van Alstyne and Whitesboro.

Hours

The county's posted schedule keeps both sites running 12 hours a day, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., from Monday, Oct. 19, through Saturday, Oct. 24. Sunday, Oct. 25, has shorter hours, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. The 12-hour days return for the last five days of early voting, which ends Friday, Oct. 30.

The deadline to apply for a ballot by mail is Friday, Oct. 23. The county notes the application must be received in person or by office mail by then; a postmark does not count.

Election Day

On Nov. 3, voting runs 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and Grayson County voters may use any of the county's vote centers. Five are in Denison: the sub-courthouse, Grayson College's SAB training room, Parkside Baptist Church at 301 N. Lillis Lane, the Mt. Olive Baptist Church gymnasium at 920 W. Texas St., and the main hall of Southside Baptist Church at 3500 S. Park Ave.

What is on the ballot

The county's sample ballots, posted for 42 ballot styles, show every voter in the county choosing a state representative for House District 62. Republican Shelley Luther and Democrat Catherine Thorne are the two candidates listed.

Every style also includes the 4th Congressional District race between Republican U.S. Rep. Pat Fallon and Democrat Jason Pearce, along with the statewide contests at the top of the ticket. The U.S. Senate race lists Republican Ken Paxton, Democrat James Talarico and Libertarian Ted Brown, and the governor's race lists Republican Greg Abbott, Democrat Gina Hinojosa and Libertarian Pat Dixon.

The county has also posted its list of declared write-in candidates: four for U.S. Senate, four for governor and two for lieutenant governor.

The county's voting guide points residents to the state's VoteTexas.gov site for details on voter registration, ballots by mail and photo ID. Grayson County Election Administration can be reached at 903-893-8683.
