Hay producers and anyone curious about forage quality can attend the second annual Grayson County Hay Show on Thursday, Oct. 22, at Denison's Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show site.

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Grayson County is putting on the evening event, which runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Mayors Arena at 1022 RC Vaughn Road.

Cost and program

Admission is $20 per person. According to the extension service, that covers dinner, presentations, contests and a trade show.

D. Chad Cummings, the county's extension agent for agriculture and natural resources, said the show is meant to recognize the work of local hay producers, and that the evening will include contest awards and a discussion of how growers can raise the forage quality of next year's crop.

Hay quality contest

Entries for the hay quality contest were collected earlier. The extension office at the Grayson County Courthouse in Sherman accepted one sample per producer from Aug. 17 through Aug. 31. Producers from Grayson and Cooke counties in Texas and from Bryan County, Oklahoma, were eligible. AgriLife said it would send the samples off for analysis at no charge and walk each producer through the results.

Questions about the show can go to Cummings by phone at 903-813-4202 or by email at chad.cummings@ag.tamu.edu.
