The Denison Police Department is bringing National Night Out back to Forest Park on Tuesday, Oct. 6, a year after the event drew what the department calls a record crowd.

This will be the city's seventh National Night Out. The free, family event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. at the park at 300 W. Crawford St., according to an event listing from KMKT Katy Country 93.1, which plans a live broadcast from the grounds. The station lists a helicopter landing, K9 demonstrations, first responder games, food, activities and local vendors.

Last year's gathering, held Oct. 7, 2025, at the same park, brought out more than 3,000 people, the department says on its National Night Out page, about triple the 2024 turnout. The department also says it finished 25th in the country in the National Association of Town Watch's National Night Out awards program.

What the night is for

National Night Out is meant to build relationships between officers and the neighborhoods they patrol. Denison police describe it as a relaxed setting where residents and officers can get to know each other over games and food, with the goal of fostering trust and cooperation that make the city safer.

Photos from past years on the city's page show an Air Evac helicopter, a Grayson County SWAT vehicle on display, a rock wall and a barrel train pulled by a police side-by-side.

Community engagement officer Jorge Molina is the department's contact for the event. He and Deputy Fire Marshal Landon Lindsey previewed this year's plans on KXII in August.

The department holds the event on the first Tuesday of October each year and says it will post updates on its social media pages.
