Drivers who use FM 1417 in Sherman to get onto northbound U.S. 75, the main route north to Denison, will need another way on starting Monday night.

The Texas Department of Transportation says the entrance ramp from FM 1417 to the northbound main lanes will close at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12. At the same time, crews will shut the left lane of the northbound frontage road from just south of FM 1417 up to Davis Street. TxDOT describes both as long-term closures that will last until the end of 2027.

Why the lanes are closing

According to TxDOT, closing that stretch of frontage road gives crews room to build two pieces of the new interchange: a south-to-north U-turn bridge at FM 1417 and a new northbound exit ramp to Travis Street.

The work is part of the state's project to widen U.S. 75 to six lanes between FM 902 and FM 1417, which got underway Oct. 5. The Herald Democrat and North Texas e-News both carried TxDOT's notice of the new closures this week.

TxDOT cautions that the schedule could shift because of weather, equipment problems or delays in getting materials.

Driving through the work zone

The agency is asking motorists who regularly travel the corridor to watch for barricades, signs and other traffic controls, slow down approaching and inside the work zone, put away phones and other distractions, and keep an eye out for road crews.
