Prior to that pivotal play, the game had been tightly contested, with the White Sox trailing 1-2 before erasing the deficit and then taking a 5-2 lead.
Benintendi’s hit to right field allowed Antonacci, Vargas, and Murakami to cross the plate, shifting the momentum firmly in Chicago’s favor. The Rangers’ starting pitcher, Jacob deGrom, took the loss after allowing five earned runs over 4.2 innings, striking out six batters but struggling to contain the White Sox offense.
Early Scoring and Rangers Resistance
The White Sox opened the scoring in the first inning when Pederson homered to right center, measuring 423 feet. Texas responded in the second inning as Carter singled to right, allowing Duran to score and give the Rangers a 2-1 advantage. The Rangers managed to cut the deficit in the seventh inning when Burger homered to left center, 408 feet, making the score 5-3. However, the White Sox offense reignited in the ninth inning. Vargas doubled to left, scoring Meidroth, followed by a double from Acuña to right that brought Murakami and Vargas home.
