Sandell’s final kick
Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal on the final play gave Oklahoma a 27-24 victory over Texas on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The kick capped a 17-point fourth quarter for the Sooners, who rallied from a 17-10 deficit after three quarters.
Texas takes control
Texas opened the scoring in the first quarter when Cam Coleman caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Arch Manning, followed by Gianni Spetic’s kick. Oklahoma tied the game in the second quarter when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell’s kick making it 7-7.
The Longhorns answered with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Manning to Ryan Wingo and then added Spetic’s 23-yard field goal. Texas led 17-7 at halftime, with the quarter scores showing a 10-7 advantage for the Longhorns in the second period after a scoreless first quarter for Oklahoma.
Sandell’s 53-yard field goal was the only score in the third quarter, bringing Oklahoma within 17-10.
Fourth-quarter swing
Lloyd Avant’s 2-yard touchdown run tied the game at 17-17 early in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma then moved ahead when Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell’s kick making it 24-17.
