Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin's 53rd District Court granted Cole Hutson a temporary injunction, creating a route for the offensive lineman to play for the Texas Longhorns this season. The decision was reported by sports.yahoo.com, citing Chip Brown of Horns247.
Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas' Week 2 matchup with Ohio State. On Sept. 7, coach Steve Sarkisian said Hutson's status involved a separate NCAA matter that was still being addressed. The ruling does not establish when Hutson will return to game action.
It came shortly before Texas' SEC opener against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, and his availability for that game remained uncertain. Sarkisian was scheduled to speak with local media on Thursday and could offer an update.
Texas has continued receiving production from both guard spots. Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski became the starter at left guard, although fall-camp expectations had favored Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore. During camp, quarterback Arch Manning said he was surprised Hutson had returned to the team and welcomed him.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker said Hutson had performed well in camp and provided leadership and support within the locker room.
