The Houston Texans have received encouraging news about offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is projected to be sidelined for several weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This update comes after an injury scare during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as noted by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while there are concerns regarding Smith's injury, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a lengthy absence. According to Sleeper's Jacob Barzilla, the Texans will likely require Smith's services at some point this season.
Smith joined the Texans in the offseason on a two-year contract valued at $20 million, with the expectation that he would assume the starting right tackle role. However, his injury contributes to the ongoing uncertainty about the team's offensive line. ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated that Smith could be out for a few weeks, which is better than more severe alternatives.
Fortunately for the Texans, Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, is currently filling in at right tackle, and the team is pleased with the development of Blake Fisher, who has shown potential this preseason. Updates regarding Smith's status and the offensive line are expected as the season nears.
