The Houston Texans are adapting their strategy as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season, particularly after placing wide receiver Jayden Higgins on injured reserve due to a torn ACL.
Higgins was anticipated to be a key player as the team's No. 2 receiver, and his injury has created a need for additional talent at the position, especially with fellow receivers Jaylin Noel and Tank Dell also facing health issues.
In light of these challenges, the Texans are reportedly exploring free agency options, focusing on veterans Josh Reynolds and Zay Jones. Reynolds, who previously played for the Detroit Lions, had a productive 2023 season with 40 receptions for 608 yards and five touchdowns. Zay Jones, formerly with the Jacksonville Jaguars, recorded 82 catches for 823 yards and five touchdowns in 2022.
Despite recent struggles, both Reynolds and Jones are being considered as potential additions to strengthen the Texans' receiving corps. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the team is conducting workouts for free agent receivers, indicating a proactive approach to address their current roster situation.
With Higgins sidelined for the season, the Texans will likely depend on Xavier Hutchinson, Noel, and Dell to support star receiver Nico Collins. The team's interest in Reynolds and Jones highlights their pursuit of experienced players to enhance their offensive capabilities, although further details on potential signings remain unclear.
