This decision follows Tafuna's earlier release from the Texans on August 5, after which he was claimed by the New York Jets. However, he was cut from the Jets during their roster adjustments.
Tafuna, who previously played for the Texans in his rookie year after going undrafted in 2025, is anticipated to provide additional support for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. During his time at the University of Utah, he accumulated a total of 108 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 15 tackles for loss.
He also recorded three fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and one forced fumble throughout his four-year college career. Analysts have pointed out that while Tafuna may not possess all the ideal characteristics for interior defenders, his athleticism could be an asset.
