TCU Athletics has reinstated media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, resolving a dispute that began after the newspaper reported on a locker room incident involving the football team. The university announced the restoration of access on September 4, following productive discussions between the two parties.
The conflict arose after a report by Star-Telegram reporter Steven Johnson on August 18 detailed tensions within the locker room and alleged that coaches failed to address the situation. This report followed an incident on August 13, where safety Jacob Fields was accused of punching sophomore receiver Dozie Ezukanma, leading to Fields' dismissal from the team.
TCU officials initially revoked the Star-Telegram's credentials due to alleged threats against Ezukanma, who later identified himself in a social media video. Fields turned himself in to Tarrant County police on August 30, facing charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. He was released on a $50,000 bond the same day.
During the credential suspension, Johnson covered TCU's season opener against North Carolina from the stands in Dublin, Ireland.
