Hoover's exit follows a regular season in which TCU achieved an 8-4 record, a season that initially fostered optimism for a strong push in the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft opportunities.
Before Hoover's decision, TCU's personnel team had begun identifying quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester stated that Hoover was considered a vital player for the next season, and his leaving Fort Worth was not anticipated. However, they had started scouting quarterbacks as a backup plan should he choose to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are particularly interested in an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they regard high school signee Adam Schobel as their long-term solution at quarterback. Following the confirmation of Hoover's transfer, TCU swiftly signed Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who performed well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester first recognized Craig while reviewing film of a previous Harvard receiver and described him as efficient, decisive, and possessing a strong arm.
Despite Hoover's commendable season performance, he did not generate significant interest from the NFL draft, leading TCU's coaching staff to believe he would stay with the team. However, head coach Sonny Dykes noticed a shift in Hoover's mindset as the season concluded, suggesting a transfer might be on the horizon.
