WACO, Texas — Quarterback DJ Lagway has embarked on a new journey at Baylor University following a difficult period at the University of Florida. His time in Gainesville was marked by struggles, including a challenging game against LSU where he threw five interceptions, which significantly impacted his mental well-being. After witnessing her son in distress, his mother, Nikita, rushed to support him.

Upon her arrival, she found Lagway feeling abandoned and overwhelmed. He expressed his despair, saying, "I think God forgot about me." After a challenging 2025 season filled with injuries and setbacks, Lagway made the decision to transfer back to Texas, where he has family ties and a connection to Baylor.

Now in Waco, Lagway is adjusting to his new surroundings and has reconnected with head coach Dave Aranda. Aranda acknowledged the emotional difficulties Lagway experienced and noted a pivotal conversation that allowed Lagway to open up about his frustrations in Gainesville. Lagway describes his new life as "slower" and is thankful for the change.

He is preparing to kick off the season with Baylor against Auburn, marking a fresh chapter in his football career. As he looks ahead, questions remain about which version of Lagway will take the field: the promising recruit or the player who faced challenges at Florida.
