TCU has announced the dismissal of safety Jacob Fields from its football team, occurring less than two weeks before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision follows a reported physical confrontation with a teammate that occurred on August 13, as detailed in the TCU crime and fire log.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the incident has been characterized as aggravated assault. Sources indicated that Fields was involved in a fight with an offensive player and had previously experienced hostility from teammates, including insults and threats, with claims of being spat on.
Before the altercation, Fields had sought assistance from the coaching staff multiple times regarding the rising tensions but did not receive any feedback. Fields transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason, where he was anticipated to be the starting free safety.
In 2025, he earned recognition as Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA, starting every game for Louisiana Tech, leading the team with 92 tackles, and achieving three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
