The New England Patriots have completed a trade involving wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, sending him to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots received Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028.
At 24 years old, Boutte faced stiff competition in the Patriots' receiving lineup, especially after the team acquired AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. Other receivers on the roster included DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, which limited Boutte's chances to play.
Head coach Mike Vrabel noted that the trade would provide Boutte with more opportunities in Houston, where he would not be sidelined as he was in New England. Vrabel stated, "That was one place (wide receiver) where we do have some depth, and I think for all parties involved, that was probably the best thing."
Boutte's lack of special teams experience contributed to his limited playing time. Last season, he participated in 14 games, achieving 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns. As he joins the Texans, Boutte is expected to serve as a backup behind established receivers Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel. Details regarding his specific role with the Texans remain unclear.
