The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints have received $500,000 fines from the NFL due to a brawl during their recent joint practice. The league highlighted that maintaining sportsmanship is crucial, especially during joint practices where unsportsmanlike conduct can lead to injuries.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his concern over the penalties and intends to appeal the ruling. He stated that the behavior exhibited during the practice, which included players removing their helmets and engaging in fights, does not represent the teams or the league positively. Jones commented on the fines, saying they are quite severe, and he acknowledged the league's position on the matter.
Should the fines remain in effect, Jones indicated that he would also impose penalties on the players involved in the altercations. Linebacker Donovan Ezeiruaku was noted for removing the helmet of a Saints player and striking another.
Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner was also mentioned for his involvement in several incidents, including a physical clash with a Cowboys player and performing a wrestling move on another.
Details regarding the appeal process or any additional player fines have not yet been disclosed.
