The Houston Texans have shared encouraging news about wide receiver Tank Dell's recovery from a severe knee injury. However, general manager Nick Caserio has stated that the team is not hurrying his return.

Currently on Reserve/Injured with a designation to return, Dell is set to miss a minimum of the initial four games of the regular season as he heals from a dislocated kneecap and multiple ligament tears sustained in December 2024.

Caserio mentioned that while Dell is closer to a return than he was at the beginning of training camp, he must still regain his explosive speed, which is essential for his playing style. Dell has demonstrated improvement in his quickness and route-running skills, but the Texans are committed to ensuring he can operate at the high velocities necessary for success in the NFL.

Dell's injury kept him sidelined for the entire 2025 season, requiring extensive rehabilitation. The Texans are being cautious about his readiness, as Caserio emphasized that being “close” does not mean he is prepared for game action. The team is prioritizing Dell's complete recovery over immediate roster needs at the wide receiver position.

Prior to his injury, Dell had established himself as a significant contributor for quarterback C.J. Stroud, achieving 98 receptions for 1,376 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons. His ability to stretch the field and create space for others is something the Texans are eager to restore as they navigate the early season without him.

In Dell's absence, other receivers, including Boutte and Noel, will have the chance to step up and develop chemistry with Stroud, allowing the Texans to evaluate their offensive needs moving forward. The timeline for Dell's return remains uncertain as the team emphasizes his health and performance over a quick comeback.
