The Houston Texans are considering changes to their offensive line before Sunday’s AFC South opener against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Coach DeMeco Ryans discussed the situation Wednesday at the Houston Methodist Training Center. Houston gained only 18 rushing yards on 12 attempts, and C.J. Stroud was pressured on 45.5% of his dropbacks when Cincinnati used man coverage.
Trent Brown faced significant scrutiny at right tackle after difficulties against the Bengals’ pass rush. Blake Fisher, Notre Dame’s 2024 second-round selection, is among the players who could be evaluated for that starting spot after a training camp showing marked by mobility and strength. Wyatt Teller could also move into a full-time starting guard position beside rookie center Keylan Rutledge.
Houston has not announced whether Fisher or Teller will start against Indianapolis.
The Colts placed wide receiver Alec Pierce on injured reserve because of a heel injury, coach Shane Steichen said. Indianapolis signed veteran Darius Slayton and put Eli Pancol on its practice squad. The Colts still have Josh Downs and Keenan Allen, along with rookie tight end Tyler Warren, among their receiving choices, and Taylor is characterized as an underneath threat.
Houston is waiting for the official injury report on Pro Bowl receiver Nico Collins, who is dealing with a hamstring issue. The Texans previously won the AFC South after 0-2 starts in 2018 and 2023. With all four division teams entering Week 3 without a division game, Sunday’s winner will have a 1-0 division tiebreaker record and the loser will be 0-3.
