The Dallas Cowboys have welcomed back quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after he was initially let go to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process and chose to return to the Cowboys, even with interest from other teams for their practice squads.

Dak Prescott, the team's leading quarterback, shared his enthusiasm for Milton's return, noting the positive influence he has within the quarterback group and the team. Prescott acknowledged Milton's development during the offseason and stressed the need for support as he copes with the loss of the QB2 role he held in 2025.

"I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is. Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott stated, while also recognizing Milton's potential frustration and encouraging him to use it as motivation.

Milton, who was selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, was acquired by the Cowboys before the 2025 season. His performance in the preseason showed marked improvement, as he completed 29 out of 43 passes for 378 yards, achieving three touchdowns without any interceptions.

This represented a significant leap in consistency compared to his previous season, where he played in four games with a completion rate of 62.5% and recorded one touchdown along with two interceptions.

With his return, Milton looks to build on his preseason success and take advantage of the competitive atmosphere to enhance his skills as a quarterback. The support from Prescott will be vital as Milton approaches his third season with the team, aiming to make the most of this opportunity on the practice squad.
