The Dallas Cowboys are scheduled for an NFL-record international trip without a bye the following week, traveling to Rio de Janeiro to face the Baltimore Ravens. The flight from Dallas covers about 5,220 miles each way, or nearly 10,500 miles round trip. Baltimore’s route to Rio is approximately 4,781 miles.
The game is set for 5:25 p.m. local time in Rio, which is one hour later than Eastern Time. CBS Sports’ schedule analysis indicates the teams could leave Brazil after midnight. Dallas’ flight home is expected to take more than 10 hours, potentially putting the Cowboys back in Dallas near noon on Monday.
Both teams are scheduled to play in Week 4. Dallas will visit the Houston Texans, while Baltimore is set to host the Tennessee Titans. Comparable NFL trips have previously been followed by extra rest.
The Los Angeles Rams flew 5,456 miles to London last season and then had a bye. The Rams and San Francisco 49ers traveled over 7,800 miles to Australia for a Week 1 game and had 10 or more days before their next contests. Earlier Brazil games also occurred in Week 1.
Before this trip, Denver’s 4,670-mile London flight in Week 6 last season was the longest without a later bye.
