The Dallas Cowboys reportedly signed Tyler Goodson on Tuesday, adding depth after backup running back Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that requires surgery and will end his season. The report came from sports.yahoo.com, which cited Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson.
Goodson, 25, spent three seasons in Indianapolis and appeared in 33 games. He carried 54 times for 264 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt, and logged 304 special teams snaps over the last two seasons. His special teams work could help fill the role Davis leaves behind.
Emari Demercado served as Dallas’ second running back against the Giants and gained 7 yards on two carries. Javonte Williams led the team with 12 of its 18 rushing attempts, while also making five receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Green Bay signed Goodson as an undrafted free agent in 2023, then released him before Indianapolis picked him up. After his Colts release, he attended Atlanta’s training camp, returned to the Falcons’ practice squad after being waived and later signed with Dallas.
Goodson ran for 1,151 yards and six touchdowns in his final season at Iowa, earned All-Big Ten recognition and posted a 4.42-second 40-yard dash. The effect of his arrival on Israel Abanikanda, who was elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, was not clear.
