The Dallas Cowboys lost 28-20 to the New York Giants in their 2026 NFL opener, with eight penalties costing 85 yards. Dallas also was hurt by a taunting penalty against Javonte Williams after a touchdown, which moved Brandon Aubrey’s extra-point attempt farther from the goal posts. Schottenheimer said the coaching staff and players shared responsibility for the mistakes and called the outcome humbling. Dak Prescott completed 22 of 34 passes for 175 yards and threw touchdown passes to CeeDee Lamb and Williams.
Williams also scored on a run, but Dallas could not overcome its penalties and other execution problems. The Cowboys are scheduled to host Washington next Sunday, with no further preparation details provided.
