As the Dallas Cowboys finalize their roster for the 2026 NFL season, quarterback Joe Milton has been retained on the practice squad. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer shared his excitement about Milton's return, expressing that he is "elated" to have him back, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota.
Milton, who entered the league in 2024 after being selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots, demonstrated his strong arm during preseason play. Although he participated in just one regular-season game with the Patriots, his potential was recognized by both fans and coaches.
In April 2025, he was traded to the Cowboys, where he gained experience by appearing in four games without making a start.
After being waived at the end of August, Milton chose to rejoin the Cowboys' practice squad, indicating his contentment with the team's trajectory. Schottenheimer and the coaching staff are optimistic about Milton's commitment, believing it will aid his development.
The Cowboys are scheduled to begin their 2026 season on September 13 against the New York Giants, with quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the team.
