The Houston Texans have ruled out wide receiver Nico Collins for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. Collins missed practice during the week because of a Grade 1 hamstring strain sustained in practice last week. He also missed Houston’s loss to Cincinnati, keeping the team’s leading receiving threat out for a second consecutive game. Sports Yahoo reported the decision, citing NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Houston and Indianapolis are both 0-2 entering the matchup. The Texans scored six points in a 20-6 loss to the Bengals. Tight end Dalton Schultz may see more passes after catching 12 of 14 throws for 140 yards against Cincinnati. Eight of those catches came in the fourth quarter. Schultz leads Houston through two games with 16 receptions and 175 yards.
Houston could use additional tight ends or turn to its rushing attack. David Montgomery and Woody Marks had limited production against Cincinnati, with the Texans’ running backs gaining an average of 1.5 yards per carry. Indianapolis has given up 354 rushing yards at 5.4 yards per carry this season.
Houston’s available receivers include Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jared Wayne. No further details were provided about Collins’ recovery timeline.
