Jared Nuness, a former assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, has been sanctioned by the NCAA after admitting to placing around 3,400 bets with a total value of approximately $38,000 on various professional and college sports. This action follows an investigation that began when a third-party sports wagering monitoring system flagged Nuness in November 2025.
Baylor conducted its own internal investigation and reported the findings to the NCAA in December 2025, which led to a collaborative inquiry. By February 2026, Nuness acknowledged to the NCAA that he had breached its rules by betting on professional sports using two online sportsbooks.
He also admitted to allowing his underage son access to these betting accounts, resulting in three bets placed on NCAA Division I men's basketball games totaling $170.
The NCAA's report indicated that Nuness's betting activities did not involve Baylor University or its athletes. He accepted full accountability for his actions, and both Nuness and the NCAA enforcement staff agreed to categorize the case as a Level II-Standard violation.
Baylor Athletics confirmed its cooperation with the NCAA during the investigation, emphasizing ongoing compliance education within the athletic department. Nuness, who departed from Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 due to personal issues, is now subject to a two-year show-cause order requiring him to undergo meaningful sports betting education and provide similar training to his colleagues.
