Nate Bennett is set to make the first start of his college career when Baylor hosts Prairie View A&M. DJ Lagway has been ruled out of the Week 2 game after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Baylor’s season opener against Auburn, Pete Thamel reported.
Lagway stayed in the 17-16 loss after injuring the ankle and completed 27 of 54 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Baylor coach Dave Aranda had previously described Lagway’s status as day to day. On3 reported that Lagway had been trying to play through the injury but was considered doubtful for the matchup.
Baylor is 0-1 after scoring late against Auburn and missing a two-point conversion that would have produced a victory. The source said it was unclear whether Lagway’s condition influenced that decision. The Bears are scheduled to host Louisiana Tech next weekend, then open Big 12 play against Colorado on Sept. 26. No additional information was provided about how long Lagway may be out.
