Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino is out for the remainder of the season because of a leg injury sustained in the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M. The team had viewed its defensive line as a major strength entering the season, but Tezino’s absence will increase the demands on the remaining linemen.

Tezino recorded two sacks against Auburn and became one of the players coach Dave Aranda identified as a top performer at his position after the season opener. Aranda said Baylor would miss the work Tezino had invested in reaching that level of performance.

Braylen Jackson could take on more opportunities, Aranda said. Jackson has contributed against the run, and Aranda described him as a physical player whose run defense gives Baylor confidence. The Bears also entered the season without senior safety and defensive leader Jacob Redding, who suffered a torn ACL before the opener against Auburn.

Tezino’s absence leaves Baylor relying on its defensive-line depth for the remainder of the schedule.
